One of the fatal accidents was registered in the Madrid municipality of Chinchón. The toll from this holiday period, which saw an estimated 5,610,000 movements, is five fewer fatalities than in 2025, although last year's operation lasted one day longer. Among the victims was a pedestrian.
The majority of accidents, six in total, occurred on conventional roads, while the remaining two happened on highways or motorways. Sunday was the day with the highest accident rate, with four fatalities in four separate incidents, followed by Friday with three and Saturday with one.
The provinces affected by the accidents were Badajoz, Manresa (Barcelona), Paterna de Rivera (Cádiz), Riudellots de la Selva (Girona), Millana (Guadalajara), Chinchón (Madrid), San Cristóbal de la Vega (Segovia), and Albalat dels Sorells (Valencia).
So far this year, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) reports a total of 673 road deaths. June stood out as the deadliest month with 137 fatalities, followed by July with 107. In August, the number of deaths has reached 72.
This trend highlights a concerning increase in accidents during the summer months, particularly in June, which may be related to increased mobility during the holiday period and its impact on road safety.
