The works, with an investment of approximately 120,000 euros, will increase the available surface area by 25%, from the current 364 square meters to 446 square meters. This project is funded by the Regional Investment Plan of the Community of Madrid 2022-2026, with municipal co-financing.
To carry out the expansion, the old, disused sauna area has been removed, and a new 45-square-meter wing has been constructed at the rear of the building. The goal is to create a more open space with large windows, enhancing the functionality and usable area of the sports center.
The construction is progressing well and is expected to be completed during the month of June. The mayor of Campo Real, Francisco Leal, visited the site to check on the progress.
“"This expansion was one of the objectives of the Legislature, and today it is closer to becoming a reality. We have moved from words to actions, and that is something the residents appreciate."
The mayor also recalled that, due to high demand, the gym's opening hours were extended to include Sundays, a measure that has been very well received. The number of registered users has increased by 70% in the last two years, reaching 815 users, which previously necessitated restricting new registrations for non-residents.
With the facility expansion, the City Council anticipates lifting this restriction and is considering further actions to create an even larger, more open space with greater capacity for installing new equipment and improving user mobility.
