Last Thursday, April 30, a group of young people from Alameda del Valle went to the mountain to choose the tree that will be the centerpiece of the traditional May 2026 celebration. After selecting a magnificent pine specimen, the participants carefully cleaned it and transported it to the municipality's center.
Once anchored and standing tall in the main square, crowned with its flag at the very top, residents and participants shared a barbecue. This gathering served to celebrate the day and regain strength after the effort put into preparing the event.
The placement of the May tree is an ancestral tradition linked, since ancient times, to the blessing of harvests and the celebration of the arrival of spring. This ritual symbolizes the rebirth of nature, fertility, and life after winter.
This festivity has deep roots in numerous European countries and a particular tradition in various regions of Spain, especially in Galicia and the Castilian plateau. In these areas, the May tradition remains alive as an essential part of the cultural and popular heritage.
