The Floorball 3v3 World Championship, taking place this weekend in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, has seen both Spanish teams, men's and women's, achieve a historic milestone by qualifying for the quarter-finals. Both squads successfully navigated the group stage and won their initial knockout matches.
The men's team staged an epic comeback in their round of 16 match against the Czech Republic. After trailing 1-6, the Spanish players, all from CDE El Valle, managed to tie the score 6-6 in the final seconds of regulation time, forcing a penalty shootout. They ultimately triumphed in the shootout, with goals from Salazar and Tastet, igniting euphoria at the sports center.
The men's national team had reached the round of 16 after defeating Hungary (7-4) and Colombia (20-3), and drawing with Italy (2-2), in addition to a decisive victory against Cameroon (12-0). They will now face Germany in the quarter-finals this Sunday at 10:20 AM.
Meanwhile, the women's team also demonstrated their strength. After a narrow loss to Switzerland (4-5) and wins against Hong Kong (11-3) and Hungary (6-6), they needed to beat Slovakia to advance from the group stage. Despite being down 0-2, they managed a comeback to win 3-2, with goals from Leganés players Lidia González and Astrid Olson. Subsequently, in the round of 16, they defeated Italy 6-2, with notable performances from Eva Gil and Clara Larnaudie of Floorball Escorial.
The women's team will play their quarter-final match against Switzerland at 9:40 AM, seeking revenge for their group stage encounter. The performance of both teams in San Lorenzo de El Escorial has already marked a significant moment for Spanish floorball.
