The Guadarrama Town Council has opened the application period for livestock farmers to request the use of pastures in Dehesa de Abajo, a measure aimed at fostering extensive livestock farming in the area.

The Department of Environment in Guadarrama has announced the opening of the application period for livestock grazing in the communal pasture “De Abajo”. This initiative will allow farmers to utilize the available pastures from May 15 until February 28, 2027. Residents using this area for walks should be aware of the potential presence of free-roaming livestock.
This traditional use is included in the Regulation of Assets of Local Entities, which seeks to harmonize livestock, forestry, and recreational uses of communal assets. The “De Abajo” pasture is located near the “La Mata” industrial estate.
Interested livestock farmers must have been registered in the municipal census for at least five years. Applications must be submitted to the General Registry of the Town Council, addressed to the Department of Environment, or through electronic administration. It is necessary to specify the type and number of animals that will graze in the dehesa.

"This traditional use of spaces, regulated for different purposes, allows for the conservation of these natural reserves and benefits residents through various types of use—livestock, forestry, and recreation—that the natural environment of Guadarrama provides."

Required documentation includes the livestock farm code and a valid civil liability insurance for the animals. For bovines, a health certificate for animal movement is mandatory; for equines, each animal’s passport is required. Fees, which remain unchanged from the previous year, are 19.90 euros for equine livestock, 11.35 euros for cattle, and 9.90 euros for donkeys. Payments must be made at the Municipal Treasury, located at Cervantes Street, number 1. Authorizations will be issued by the Guadarrama Town Council.
This measure provides an opportunity for livestock farmers, allowing their animals to roam freely for ten months and feed on the dehesa’s pastures, thereby promoting extensive livestock farming in the locality. All detailed information is available on the municipal website.
