The Community of Madrid has announced the establishment of BIOSUR, a new foundation for biomedical research and innovation, scheduled to begin operations in 2027. This initiative will be developed near the public hospitals of Fuenlabrada and Móstoles, with a presence across the healthcare complexes of these three Madrid municipalities.
The project, unveiled by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during the Debate on the State of the Region, will partner with the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) as a key academic and scientific collaborator. BIOSUR's primary objective is to coordinate and enhance research projects, clinical trials, and other healthcare innovation initiatives undertaken at the associated centers.
The foundation will feature a dedicated structure aimed at promoting both the generation of scientific knowledge and its practical application in patient care. A significant aspect will be the inclusion of patient experiences in biomedical scientific and technological development, fostering a closer link between research and actual healthcare needs.
In Alcorcón, BIOSUR will be integrated into the municipal public health system, providing professionals with a specific space for research and coordination with the centers in Fuenlabrada and Móstoles. The regional government views the creation of this foundation as a crucial strategic step towards future accreditation as a Health Research Institute.
