Journalist Paz Fernández-Xesta will deliver a talk titled Göbekli Tepe, the Discovery That Changed History, delving into the mysteries of this site, considered the oldest place of worship in Humanity.
Göbekli Tepe, meaning 'Potbelly Hill' in Turkish, is a monumental archaeological complex situated on a hill near Sanliurfa, Turkey. The site was discovered in 1994 by German archaeologist Klauss Schmitdt and has since raised numerous unanswered questions about its purpose and meaning.
There is broad consensus that Göbekli Tepe, along with similar sites like Karahantepe, demonstrates that human settlement began much earlier than previously believed. This finding has necessitated a revision of historical periods, pushing back the Neolithic era and the emergence of complex societies driven by food surpluses.
Paz Fernández-Xesta, who had a professional career at RTVE, will explore various theories attempting to decipher the significance of this archaeological enclave, highlighting its most notable aspects.
The conference, organized by the Culture Department of Guadarrama through its Humanities Hall, will take place at the Casa de Cultura Alfonso X el Sabio. Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis, open to the general public.
This event is part of the regular initiatives by the Humanities Hall of Guadarrama, which includes courses, talks, and cultural outings. More information about their programs is available at [www.auladehumanidadesdeguadarrama.es](http://www.auladehumanidadesdeguadarrama.es).
