The local branch of the Socialist Party in Alpedrete celebrated its 90th anniversary with an event that brought together representatives from the Sierra de Madrid and Minister Óscar López, who emphasized the importance of grassroots activism for political change in the region.
The PSOE of Alpedrete commemorated the 90th anniversary of its founding last Sunday, a milestone dating back to May 12, 1936. The celebration took place at the local Casa del Pueblo and was attended by Óscar López, Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function and Secretary General of the PSOE-M.
During the event, Minister López encouraged attendees to redouble their efforts for the May 2027 elections, with the aim of “recovering the Community of Madrid and the Mayoralty.” He stressed that, although the party may not have extensive economic resources, it possesses “the best ideas and projects,” citing the work done in Alpedrete as an example.
“
"The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party is the party with the most history in our country, the oldest, and to see today how men and women in 1936, two months before the military uprising, were here in Alpedrete opening a group, is very moving, isn't it? How they did it to fight for the same principles as today, for equality, for social justice. It is an honor to be able to accompany the comrades from Alpedrete and thank them, not only for this tribute, but for what they do every day here and to encourage them for the final stretch of this year."
The Madrid socialist leader also addressed the political situation in the Community of Madrid, criticizing the current administration and its public perception. He stated that “everyone has seen what is happening in the Community of Madrid, its inhumanity, all the shenanigans surrounding Ms. Ayuso, how she is deteriorating public universities, public healthcare.” He concluded that there is an alternative, the Socialist Party of Madrid, and expressed confidence in achieving change in the region.
Regarding the suspension of the official trip to Mexico by the president of the Community of Madrid, Óscar López described the incident as “ridiculous,” suggesting that the trip had no clear purpose beyond promoting a musical and that the president “disappeared” after the event.
The event was also attended by other prominent figures such as the Secretary of UGT Madrid, Susana Huertas; the spokesperson for the PSOE in the Assembly of Madrid, Mar Espinar; and the Organization Secretary of the Socialist Party of the Community of Madrid, Pilar Sánchez Acera. The Secretary General of the PSOE of Alpedrete, Ainhoa Lapido, and councilors Carlos Ervina and Juan Manuel Ruiz de Somavía, as well as Isidoro Aragoneses, one of the historic socialist mayors of the municipality, were also present.
Ainhoa Lapido, great-granddaughter of one of the first members, recalled the history of the Casa del Pueblo in Alpedrete, built by UGT workers from the local Sociedad de Adoquineros. This building served as a meeting point for socialists and trade unionists until the dictatorship, when it was used by the Falange, and later housed schools and even served as a provisional town hall.

"The PSOE has more than 900 Casas del Pueblo predating the Civil War. They served as libraries, cultural, social, and leisure spaces. They are symbols of democratic times, which is why it hurts how they are attacked. But socialist responsibility is always there, with democracy. Let's look forward, with the heart of the workers' and socialist movement."
Susana Huertas, from UGT Madrid, highlighted the role of the Casas del Pueblo as democratic symbols and spaces for culture and leisure, lamenting the attacks they suffer, such as the Nazi-symboled graffiti on the facade of the one in Alpedrete.
