The Alpedrete City Council has decided to postpone the approval of its 2026 budget until the May Plenary, a measure aimed at facilitating consensus after the removal of several contentious items from the agenda in a previous extraordinary session.
The Councillor for Finance, José Iglesias, explained that the decision to withdraw certain matters from last Thursday's extraordinary session was made to properly integrate them within the general budget framework. This strategy seeks a smoother and more consensual approval of the municipal accounts.
“
"It was not necessary to approve it there, and it is better that it is included in the budget to be approved in May."
Meanwhile, Francisco Miranda, spokesperson for Más Madrid, had expressed his concern about the situation arising in the Treasury Information Commission. In this commission, two proposals were presented: one for an extraordinary credit of 1,822,056.72 euros and another for a credit supplement of 655,967.51 euros. The abstention of Vox, a government partner, in the voting on these proposals, generated uncertainty about their approval in the Plenary.
Given this scenario, the government team chose to eliminate 277,056.72 euros from the first proposal, corresponding to works carried out the previous summer in schools, whose inadequate processing has led the matter to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. In the second proposal, out of the twenty initial ones, eighteen were eliminated, reducing the request from 655,967.51 euros to just 64,000 euros.

"We have no further explanation than to think that Vox has pressured, with what arguments we don't know, for the withdrawal of these points, and the PP has yielded to them. Nor do we rule out that the inefficiency of the Councillor for Finance himself led him to reconsider his proposal in two days. Or it could be both."
Miranda suggested that the withdrawal of these points could be due to pressure from Vox or a reconsideration by the Councillor for Finance, or a combination of both factors. Outstanding invoices for school works will be included in the general budget, as indicated by Iglesias.
