Majadahonda, a municipality with over 14,000 residents aged 65 and older, is celebrating Senior Week 2026 from May 11 to 17 with a varied agenda of free activities.

The city of Majadahonda, known for its high life expectancy exceeding 87 years, has launched Senior Week 2026. This initiative aims to recognize the contribution of its older residents, who make up almost a fifth of the municipality's total population. The program, designed for registered residents over 60 who are not actively employed, includes a wide range of events.
Activities began on Sunday, May 10, with an Intergenerational Chess Tournament at the Municipal Senior Center, where grandparents and grandchildren competed as teams. On Monday, May 11, a tribute was held for volunteers of the “Majadahonda Senior” program, and a collective exhibition of cultural workshop works was inaugurated. In the afternoon, the Parish of Santa Catalina Mártir hosted a Eucharist in memory of the elderly.
On Tuesday, May 12, participants enjoyed a photographic scavenger hunt through the city and a talk on artificial intelligence titled “Artificial Intelligence, Magic or Tool?” at the municipal center. The day concluded with pétanque at the Valle de la Oliva Residence and a poetry and music festival featuring the vocal group “Desafinados”.
The program continued on Wednesday, May 13, with a visit to the Enchanted Forest in San Martín de Valdeiglesias. There was also a talk on high blood pressure by the Red Cross and a festival of performances by groups from the Senior Center at the Casa de la Cultura Theater.
On Thursday, May 14, students from the IES Carlos Bousoño's Physical Conditioning program collaborated with seniors on bio-healthy routines in the Arcipreste Park. Additionally, a home fire prevention workshop was held at the municipal center, and an outdoor painting session took place in the Cerro del Aire Park.
For Friday, May 15, a guided walk through the Monte del Pilar was scheduled, starting from the fountain of Gran Parque Felipe VI. There was also a workshop “Active Minds with Ingenuity” and an anthology of zarzuela with a chotis contest in Colón Park, coinciding with San Isidro Day and the “Majadahonda Foodie” gastronomic festival. The day concluded with a performance by the rondalla “Voces de Otoño” and other artistic groups from the Senior Center.
Saturday, May 16, included a solidarity second-hand market organized by the “Reina Sofía” Senior Association, a visit to the facilities of the Local Police of Majadahonda, and a “Golden Voices” karaoke at the Senior Center. Senior Week 2026 will conclude on Sunday, May 17, with an evening dance with an orchestra and lemonade in the pedestrian street of the Senior Center, with free admission.

"Majadahonda would not be Majadahonda without that generation that has witnessed everything: urban expansion, the arrival of the train, commercial boom, the transformation of neighborhoods. They have been witnesses and protagonists."
