The Hoyo de Manzanares City Council, through its Department of Childhood and Youth, has launched a series of free dog training workshops in May, aimed at young residents to promote responsible pet ownership.

These workshops, led by TecniCan Educación Canina, seek to improve coexistence between dogs and their owners by offering tools to better understand pets and encourage appropriate behavior. The initiative will take place over two consecutive Saturdays in May.
The first workshop, focusing on theoretical training, will be held on Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 to 13:30 in Room 1 of the Culture Center. Over 3.5 hours, essential topics such as basic dog needs, respect-based training, and behavior modification will be covered. This workshop is open to all participants who meet the minimum age requirement.
The second workshop, combining theory and practice, will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 to 13:30 in La Cabilda Park. It includes the theoretical content of the first workshop and adds a 2.5-hour practical session where attendees will work directly with their dogs, supervised by professional instructors. Practical topics include recall, leash walking, the “stay” command, and addressing individual problems, always emphasizing safety and responsible handling. Spaces for this workshop are limited to ten participants with dogs.
Young people born between 1996 and 2012 are eligible to participate in these free activities. For the practical workshop, minors under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Registration opens on Wednesday, April 22, at 16:30 and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to residents of Hoyo de Manzanares. Registration can be completed online or in person at the Youth House.
