On May 8th, Galapagar will become the hub for the First School Science Day, an event gathering approximately 550 students to present their scientific projects and connect with universities and industry companies.

This initiative, driven by the Department of Education, primarily aims to spark interest in science and encourage STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) vocations among young people. Students from 3rd grade primary to secondary school will have the opportunity to showcase their work and visit stands from other educational centers, thereby promoting collaborative learning and critical thinking.
Among the projects to be presented at this science fair, notable entries include “Chlorophyll: a curious pigment” and “Creation of a closed ecosystem” from Colegio Gondomar. Colegio Parque will display models and experiments such as “Tornado in a jar” and “Water pollution model”. Meanwhile, Colegio Jacinto Benavente will feature innovations like an “Oscilloscope” and a robotic “Fruit piano”. The Carlos Ruiz center will participate with “Chemical volcanoes” and “Robotic baskets”, while Colegio Veracruz will present “Botlab: robotic interaction”. Finally, IES Cañada Real will exhibit research on the impact of CO2 in rivers and seas.
The event will also feature collaboration from five universities, bringing research closer to the students. Universidad Rey Juan Carlos will offer activities on electromagnetic energy and robotics, while UNED will host a workshop titled “Encounter with Math: no understanding, no solution”. Universidad Francisco de Vitoria will present techniques for observing cells under a microscope, and the company B2Space will conduct demonstrations with water rocket launches.
The day will be structured into two time slots: from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM for primary school students, and from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM for secondary school students. Additionally, the radio station of Colegio Jacinto Benavente will broadcast the event live, allowing a wider audience to follow this celebration of scientific knowledge.
