The Collado Villalba City Council, in collaboration with the Asociación de Labores Solidarias de La IAIA, will offer a free intergenerational activity on April 24 to introduce citizens to the traditional wool processing.

The proposal, named “De la oveja al ovillo” (From Sheep to Skein), will take place at the Collado Villalba Youth Center at 5:00 PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn firsthand how wool fleece is transformed into yarn and to experiment with this material by making their own wool bracelets.
This activity is part of the “Tejer no tiene edad” (Knitting Has No Age) project, funded by 0.7 percent of the IRPF from the Community of Madrid. This program aims to foster intergenerational spaces that promote community, well-being, and solidarity through wool, traditional crafts, and shared knowledge. The project is developed in a space provided by the Collado Villalba City Council, consolidating a neighborhood meeting point.

"Collaboration with entities like La IAIA helps to energize shared spaces and promote activities open to the public with significant educational, social, and cultural value."

The initiative also coincides with the celebration of European Wool Day, observed every April 9. The Asociación de Labores Solidarias de La IAIA actively participates in this date to highlight the cultural, social, and environmental relevance of this natural resource. This year, the association has strengthened its involvement in the European dimension of this event, joining a meeting in Ireland with other initiatives dedicated to the recovery and dissemination of wool culture.
The “De la oveja al ovillo” activity is free, but requires prior registration. Interested individuals can reserve their spot by calling 611 84 82 82 or sending an email to admin@laiaia.org.
