The Tres Cantos City Council has launched new Spanish sign language workshops, aimed at residents over 16, with the goal of fostering inclusion and facilitating communication with hearing-imimpaired individuals in the municipality.

This initiative is part of the municipal strategy for inclusion and accessibility, promoted by the Volunteer Information Point and the Area for People with Disabilities, both integrated into the Department of Family and Equality. This week, two intensive courses have been held at the Town Hall and the Vértice Youth Center.
The training program has a total duration of 30 hours, distributed over 10 sessions that combine theory and practice. Specifically, 24 hours are dedicated to practical exercises and six to theoretical content, aiming for progressive and applied learning for participants.
The training is delivered by specialized professionals from the Federation of Deaf People of the Community of Madrid, who have extensive teaching experience in Spanish sign language. Furthermore, the course is accredited by the State Confederation of Deaf People, ensuring its quality and academic rigor.
The workshops cover essential aspects for communication in sign language, from a basic introduction to understanding the deaf community. Topics include body language applied to communication, grammatical and lexical bases of sign language, and the social and cultural context of deaf people. Upon completion, participants receive a dossier with theoretical and practical materials to consolidate the acquired knowledge.
