With the arrival of the holiday exodus, many residents of Tres Cantos turn to the Local Police to leave a copy of their home or business keys. The 'Vacaciones Seguras' program, activated annually, offers peace of mind to those who are away during the summer.
This service, which has been operating for several years, will be available until September 30, covering the entire summer period and the back-to-school season, times when many families are still traveling.
The process is simple and free. Interested individuals should go to the Local Police facilities at Avenida de los Montes, 1, and hand over a set of keys. In case of emergencies such as an alarm, a water leak, or a neighbor's report, officers can enter the property without needing to force entry.
The Local Police commits to immediately notifying the owner or a designated trusted contact, ensuring the affected person is informed as soon as any incident occurs.
Keys are stored under strict security and confidentiality measures, inside sealed envelopes, and are only accessed in cases of real emergencies. The registration process is quick: simply attend in person, fill out a form, and hand over the keys.
The first deputy mayor and councilor for Security, Javier Juárez, highlighted the program's usefulness, stating, "With this service, we want to offer the residents of Tres Cantos a tool that allows them to enjoy their holidays with the peace of mind that, should any unforeseen event arise, the Local Police can act quickly and effectively."
Juárez emphasized that it is "a free, useful, and consolidated program that each summer helps reinforce the security of homes and businesses in our city."
In addition to key custody, it is recommended to check that doors and windows are securely locked, avoid signs of prolonged absence (like an overflowing mailbox), and, if possible, ask a trusted neighbor or family member to check on the property.
The 'Vacaciones Seguras' program is not limited to summer but is also reactivated during periods of high holiday travel, such as Christmas and Easter.
