The Infanta Sofía University Hospital in San Sebastián de los Reyes presents the exhibition «Traces of Life», an art show created by oncology patients that aims to humanize healthcare and give voice to their personal experiences.

The exhibition, which can be visited in the hospital's main hall until April 24, transforms the usual atmosphere of the center. Amidst the daily hustle and bustle of consultations, a space for reflection emerges where color and forms take center stage. This initiative, a result of collaboration between the Oncology Service and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, allows patients to express their experiences through art.
The artworks, created with oil and other materials, function as a visual diary that captures sensations difficult to express with words. The exhibition invites visitors to pause and recognize the admirable resilience of individuals facing a cancer diagnosis, beyond clinical reports.

Life changes drastically, as if life puts a brake on you.

Art becomes a refuge from the uncertainty that accompanies illness, which not only affects the body but completely transforms the reality of the patient and their immediate environment. In «Traces of Life», the pieces reflect a wide range of feelings, from anxiety and fear to optimism and the hope of regaining normalcy. Painting thus emerges as a therapeutic tool to channel this profound life transformation.
Beyond its aesthetic value, this activity has a deep social and human significance. Its main objective is to strengthen the bond between healthcare professionals and the people they care for. By sharing their inner world, the artists allow doctors, nurses, and auxiliary staff to connect with them through empathy and mutual understanding. The exhibition's inauguration was attended by Guillermo Ceñal, the center's manager, along with health officials from the municipalities of Alcobendas and San Sebastián de los Reyes.
