The Community of Madrid has approved an investment of nearly 102 million euros for the maintenance of 1,220 public places in care centers for individuals with severe intellectual disabilities, distributed across 20 municipalities.

The Community of Madrid has greenlit an investment of approximately 102 million euros for the maintenance of 1,220 public places for individuals with severe intellectual disabilities. These places, spread across 20 municipalities in the region, will be operational through 30 contracts stemming from the 2025 Framework Agreement, valid from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2028.
The measure will directly benefit residents in towns such as San Sebastián de los Reyes, Alcobendas, and Colmenar Viejo, as well as others like Móstoles, Alcorcón, Leganés, Getafe, Alcalá de Henares, Torrejón de Ardoz, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Collado Villalba, Ajalvir, Sevilla la Nueva, Villanueva de la Cañada, and Villanueva del Pardillo. Several districts of the capital are also included: Usera, Ciudad Lineal, Moncloa-Aravaca, Hortaleza, and Latina.
These centers provide comprehensive care including accommodation, meals, personal care, and daily activity support, complemented by adapted leisure activities. The specialized professional team offers physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychological support, and social work, aiming to slow progressive deterioration, enhance capabilities, and improve users' quality of life.
The new contracts are part of the 2025 Framework Agreement, which includes a 31% increase in investment compared to previous periods. Quality standards are raised, center certification is mandated, and equipment is improved, with a focus on rehabilitation technologies and the creation of 'snoezelen' sensory rooms. Additionally, textured diets for individuals with dysphagia are included, and digital applications will be developed to enhance communication with families.
Furthermore, a contract worth nearly half a million euros has been approved for six additional places in the Moratalaz district of Madrid, bringing the total to 1,226 funded places across the region. This investment ensures service continuity in northern municipalities like San Sebastián de los Reyes, Alcobendas, and Colmenar Viejo until mid-2028, helping users maintain community ties and receive continuous support.
