The Department of Environment of the Colmenar Viejo City Council has organized a public space on Adolfo Suárez avenue for residents and visitors to witness the astronomical phenomenon with all safety measures. The eclipse will begin around 7:35 PM and reach totality, when the Moon completely obscures the Sun, at approximately 8:31 PM, lasting about 41 seconds.
Colmenar Viejo has been designated as one of the eleven official observation points authorized by the Community of Madrid. These locations will have specialized personnel and safety equipment to guide attendees. The Councilor for Environment, Agustín de la Fuente Jiménez, emphasized the importance of making this event accessible to all ages and highlighted the safety guarantees offered by these points compared to improvised locations.
The family activity program will start at 6:30 PM on Adolfo Suárez avenue. Attendees can enjoy a water bouncy castle for children, tent areas with food and drink service, and a chill out music session between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Protective glasses will be distributed for free starting at 7:30 PM.
As a complementary scientific outreach activity, a workshop will be held on Monday, August 10th, for children enrolled in the urban camp at CPB Fuentesanta. At 10:30 AM, participants will learn to make their own eclipse observation glasses.
