The municipality of Colmenar Viejo has formally communicated to Renfe its deep concern and the dissatisfaction of its residents regarding the continuous incidents on the C4 Cercanías line. This railway line, serving as the primary link between the town and the capital, Madrid, as well as other regional locations, frequently experiences delays, cancellations, and suspensions, significantly impacting the daily mobility of thousands of citizens.
The issue was directly presented by the mayor, Carlos Blázquez, and the Councilor for Mobility, Isabel Álvarez, during a meeting with Renfe executives. The objective was to address the critical situation affecting numerous users who rely on the train for their work, educational, and personal commutes.
During the meeting with the Director General of Institutional Relations for Renfe, José Luis Blanco, and the Director of Cercanías Madrid, Sonia Ferrero, the Colmenar Viejo council emphasized the urgent need to enhance service punctuality and reliability. The mayor highlighted the daily uncertainty faced by users, stating: "The residents of Colmenar Viejo cannot continue to endure a railway service marked by daily uncertainty. We need a reliable Cercanías, with sufficient frequencies and clear, transparent user information."
The City Council has submitted a series of specific requests to Renfe to optimize the operation of the C4 line. These proposals include increasing peak-hour frequencies to meet demand, rigorous adherence to scheduled times throughout the day, and significantly improving user information during incidents. These measures aim to ensure a service that meets the needs of a growing municipality.
The mobility situation in the area is further complicated by ongoing works on the M-607 road, causing additional difficulties. In this context, the council reminds that promoting public transport requires ensuring an efficient and reliable service. The issue had previously been communicated to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility in February.
Renfe has announced the availability of an official WhatsApp communication channel to provide users with updated information on incidents, delays, and service disruptions, aiming to facilitate travel planning.
