This project, which incurs no cost for merchants, primarily aims to enhance the urban aesthetic in Alcobendas, making the streets more attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors, even when businesses are closed. The idea is to bring art to the streets, using the shutters as supports to highlight the presence of local commerce and hospitality.
The artistic interventions are designed to be durable and will be adapted to each establishment's activity, seeking a harmonious integration between the visual design and the type of business. The call is open to all street-level commercial and hospitality establishments with a metal shutter suitable for painting, preferably blind or micro-perforated models in optimal condition.
It will be positively valued if merchants offer facilities for intervention outside regular business hours.
The selection process will prioritize businesses located on the city's main commercial arteries and will discard shutters with excessive deterioration, rust, or old paint layers. As a novelty, if the quota for shutters is not met, suitable facades for murals will be considered, especially for businesses that applied in the 2024 and 2025 editions. Each establishment can only opt for one intervention, either on the shutter or the facade.
Collaboration between the artist and the merchant is essential for the design to reflect the business's essence, although the City Council will supervise proposals. Murals will mandatorily include the “Comercio Alcobendas” logo and will not feature the establishment's commercial name, focusing on the artistic composition. Once approved, the design will be final and cannot be altered.
The registration period for this edition is from April 10 to April 20, 2026. Painting work will take place between May 5 and June 30, 2026, dates that may be adjusted due to adverse weather conditions. Participating merchants commit to maintaining the artwork in good condition for at least three years and, if the premises are rented, to obtain necessary permits. The City Council fully funds 100% of the project costs.
