The Community of Madrid has authorized an investment of 766.4 million euros for the first two phases of the transformation of La Paz University Hospital, which will be part of the future Health City.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of a new adult hospitalization tower and a building for central services, housing a significant portion of the diagnostic and treatment areas. The second phase involves the demolition of the General and Traumatology buildings, and the construction of new outpatient consultation areas and a maternal-infant tower.
The works, with an execution period of 96 months, will commence in the second quarter of 2027. They will be carried out in a coordinated and staggered manner to allow construction alongside the complex's ongoing healthcare activities, enabling new facilities to become operational before intervening in current buildings and progressively relocating services.
Prior to these phases, phase zero is expected to conclude, which includes the construction of a provisional clean point, the Industrial Building, the installations gallery, and the Protontherapy building. The clean point is already finished, while excavation and site preparation continue for the remaining works, scheduled for completion by the end of November.
The overall planned investment for the Health City amounts to 1 billion euros, covering an area of over 550,000 square meters. The complex will integrate healthcare, teaching, and research activities with the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid. It will feature 1,140 beds, 49 operating rooms (some with robotic surgery), and 692 care posts distributed among day hospital, ICU, and emergency services. It will also include a Comprehensive Pediatric Cancer Center.
