The festival, directed by dancer and choreographer Elías Aguirre, will offer performances, workshops, live music sessions, and participatory initiatives for all audiences. For the first time, Cuerpo Romo will include two free performances in Nave 11: 'Hope Hunt' by Oona Doherty, and 'Aurunca' by Elías Aguirre.
Over the two days, Plaza Matadero will host a dozen short-form contemporary dance proposals, including solos and duos, designed for street encounters with the public. On Friday, October 16th, pieces such as 'Strip' by Fonsi López, 'Bad dog, not biscuit' by Boris Orihuela, and 'Hasta dónde?' by Sharon Fridman will be presented. On Saturday, October 17th, the program will feature 'Acto III' by Empty Rooms; 'La peor de todas' by Inés Narváez; 'Y entre otras cosas…' by Los Innato; 'Principio de incertidumbre' by Marina Melero; 'Cuentas corrientes' by Jessica Castellón and Boris Orihuela; 'The falling man' by Tom Weksler, and 'Danzas virtuales' by Mauricio Pérez Fayos.
The indoor program is complemented by two new creations in Nave 11. On Friday, October 16th, 'Hope Hunt' by Oona Doherty, performed by Sati Veyrunes, will be shown. The piece lies on the border between physical theatre, social commentary, and dance, exploring issues of masculinity, identity, and stereotypes through movement, word, and sound. On Saturday, October 17th, it will be the turn of 'Aurunca' by Elías Aguirre, a creation based on the idea of 'non-places' to explore the relationships between body, space, time, and identity through dance and elements like sound or lighting.
Cuerpo Romo includes professional training with two masterclasses and a workshop in Nave 16.1 of Centro Danza Matadero. On Friday, October 16th, Sati Veyrunes will lead a masterclass focusing on the process of 'Hope Hunt', working on the physical, rhythmic, and expressive elements of Doherty's piece. On the same day, choreographer Sharon Fridman will conduct a session on the INA technique, which aims to build a shared rhythm through breathing, contact, and listening.
On Saturday, October 17th, Marko Fonseca from Los Innato will teach the workshop 'in-PRACTICAL (Identificación del otro)', training inspired by disciplines such as martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, addressing trust, coordination, and physical connection between partners. The festival also incorporates participatory proposals for all audiences, such as the 'Baila el barrio' workshop, recommended for families with children aged five and up, and 'Baby Romo', a space designed for parents and babies to freely inhabit and enjoy the sound experience by Jorge da Rocha and Eliën. 'Open Body Talks', participatory dialogues in movement led by Elías Aguirre accompanied by live music from Jorge da Rocha, and various live music sessions complete the program. DJ and musician Ed Is Dead and Jorge da Rocha will offer 'professional JAM' sessions, each 30 minutes long, with invited dancers and musicians, while the 'JAM for all' will open the space to public participation with live music and DJ sets.
