Members of the Special Group for High-Altitude Rescue (GERA) of the Community of Madrid Firefighters rescued a young man and his dog on Monday in the Embalse de la Maliciosa area, Sierra de Guadarrama, after they showed signs of dehydration and exhaustion.

Emergency services received the alert around 10:12 PM last Monday. The young man had started a hike with his elderly dog in the Embalse de la Maliciosa area, in the Valle de la Barraca. At one point, the animal became exhausted, forcing the young man to carry it. Continuing their trek led to both suffering exhaustion and showing signs of dehydration, thus requiring intervention.
Once located by GERA personnel, they were provided with water and their condition was assessed. The Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency (ASEM112) took the opportunity to remind people of the importance of properly planning mountain excursions, especially avoiding the hottest hours of the day and ensuring they carry sufficient water.
