Unemployment in Madrid Registers a Notable Decrease in April

The Community of Madrid closed the month of April with a 2.21% reduction in the number of unemployed, placing it among the regions with the largest absolute decrease in unemployment.

The Community of Madrid experienced a significant drop in unemployment in April, with 6,249 fewer unemployed people than in March, consolidating a trend of recovery in the regional labor market.

According to data published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the region ended April with a total of 276,376 people without employment. This monthly decrease of 2.21% positions Madrid as one of the autonomous communities with the largest absolute reduction in unemployment, only surpassed by Andalusia and Catalonia.
Compared to April 2025, unemployment in the capital has decreased by 12,856 people, representing a 4.44% drop. This positive evolution contrasts with the national situation, where unemployment remains structurally higher.
An analysis by population segments reveals that 112,164 of the unemployed are men, a reduction of 3,067 compared to the previous month, while 164,212 are women, with 3,182 fewer. The group under 25 years old registered 18,538 unemployed, a decrease of 2,434 people, and those over 25 saw their number reduced by 3,815, to 257,838.
The services sector continues to concentrate the largest number of unemployed, with 223,982 people, although it also experienced a reduction of 4,914. Construction added 17,410 unemployed (483 fewer), industry 14,845 (294 fewer), and agriculture 1,788 (43 fewer). However, the group of people without previous employment increased by 515, reaching 18,351.
Regarding hiring, Madrid registered 176,851 contracts in April, which is 12,361 fewer than in March, a 6.53% drop. Despite this monthly setback, year-on-year hiring shows a growth of 15.94%, with 24,309 more contracts than in April 2025. Permanent contracts accounted for 50.7% of the total, compared to 49.3% for temporary contracts.
