This agreement, approved in an extraordinary Governing Council on July 29 and published today in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM), aims to develop the area's Recovery Plan. The commission will coordinate support across all regional government departments to ensure a comprehensive response, facilitating the restoration of the most affected localities and a return to normalcy.
The fires have caused significant damage to homes, facilities, and livestock farms, also impacting key economic activities such as agriculture, livestock, construction, and transport. To mitigate these consequences, the regional government has already implemented various initiatives to repair infrastructure and restore public services.
The Commission will be chaired by the Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín. It will also include the vice-ministers and technical general secretaries from all departments of the Community of Madrid, as well as the General Secretariat of the Governing Council.
Key functions include collecting and coordinating departmental proposals, defining new aid measures, monitoring their execution, and evaluating the achievement of reconstruction objectives. The commission will meet weekly and may establish working groups and invite experts as needed.
Its initial term will be one year, extendable for another, and it will be dissolved once its objectives are met. The commission's operation will not increase public spending, and its members will not receive any remuneration.
