Unemployment in Madrid Falls in April, Social Security Affiliation Reaches New High

The Community of Madrid recorded a decrease of 6,249 unemployed individuals in April, bringing the total to 276,376, while affiliation added 15,765 contributors.

Registered unemployment in the Community of Madrid experienced a significant drop in April, with 6,249 fewer people on the lists, while Social Security affiliation reached a new historical record.

According to data published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the number of unemployed individuals in the Community of Madrid stood at 276,376, representing a 2.21% decrease compared to the previous month. Compared to April 2025, unemployment fell by 12,856 people, a 4.44% reduction.
This positive labor market performance is complemented by an increase in Social Security affiliation in the region. In April, 15,765 contributors were added, a 0.41% increase from March, bringing the total number of employed individuals to 3,895,185. Compared to a year ago, the system has gained 115,862 affiliates, an increase of 3.07%.

The decline in unemployment was led by the services sector, with 4,914 fewer unemployed, followed by construction (-483), industry (-294), and agriculture (-43). Services account for the majority of the unemployed, with 223,982 people.
Unemployment decreased among both men and women, with 3,067 fewer men and 3,182 fewer women unemployed. The over-25 age group accounted for most of this decrease. Hiring, meanwhile, declined in April with 176,851 contracts signed, although year-on-year there was a 15.94% increase.
Nationally, registered unemployment also fell in April by 62,668 people, bringing the total to 2,357,044 unemployed, the lowest figure since 2008. Social Security added 223,685 contributors, reaching a new historical high of 22,105,831 average affiliates.
