The 13th edition of the “Madrid en marcha contra el cáncer” charity race will cause significant traffic disruptions in several districts of Madrid this Sunday, April 19, 2026, with street closures and modifications to EMT bus lines.

The event, organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, will take place between 9:00 AM and 12:20 PM, with an expected participation of up to 25,000 people. The main 10-kilometer route is for runners, while a shorter 4.5-kilometer option is open to participants who prefer to walk. The starting point will be on Paseo de la Castellana, and the finish line on Paseo de Recoletos, next to Plaza de Colón.
To ensure safety and manage traffic flow, a special deployment will be in place, involving the Municipal Police and Mobility Agents. The main traffic closures will be concentrated along the Castellana axis, from Plaza de Castilla to Recoletos, affecting key locations such as Plaza de Cuzco, Plaza del Doctor Marañón, and the Emilio Castelar roundabout.

The main traffic cuts will be concentrated between 8:45 AM and 10:45 AM on the Castellana axis, from Plaza de Castilla to Recoletos.

Traffic restrictions will be implemented in several phases. Initially, between 8:45 AM and 10:45 AM, the most significant closures will occur. Subsequently, from 10:45 AM to 12:20 PM, limitations will continue on intermediate sections of the same axis and nearby areas. Finally, until 1:30 PM, additional closures will remain for dismantling tasks, especially around Plaza de Colón.
As a result of these closures, more than 20 EMT bus lines will modify their usual routes during Sunday morning. The Madrid City Council advises citizens to prioritize public transport and, for long-distance private vehicle travel, suggests using ring roads such as the M-30 and M-40.
Attendees can access the event via nearby metro stations such as Colón, Alonso Martínez, or Banco de España, as well as the Recoletos Cercanías train station. The initiative aims not only to promote sports but also to raise funds for cancer research and patient support, as well as to highlight the needs of patients and their families.
