The council has announced the launch of this measure, which will allow each dog to be linked to its owner through a genetic sample. Registration will be free until next September 30th. From October 1st, the DNA test will cost 36.30 euros.
The test, which involves taking a quick and painless saliva sample from the animal, can be performed at any veterinary clinic in the municipality. This initiative is part of the municipal Environmental Ordinance and aims to strengthen control over street cleaning.
According to the regulations, owners who do not have their canine DNA registered will face fines of up to 750 euros. The main objective is to create a genetic database to identify those responsible for failing to collect dog waste in public areas.
The City Council argues that the system will also be useful for the protection and location of animals in cases of loss, abandonment, or mistreatment, promoting responsible ownership and improving coexistence and public health conditions.

To complete the free registration, owners must access the Canine DNA registration platform, select Torrejón de Ardoz, and enter their DNI and the animal's details. After registration, they will receive a voucher to book an appointment at veterinary clinics. The phone number 962 204 550 is available for inquiries.
The council reminds that the free period ends on September 30, 2026. Afterwards, the cost will be 36.30 euros, and owners without registration will be subject to the foreseen penalties.
