The Community of Madrid has unveiled its ambitious 'Madrid, University Region' project, aiming to establish the region as an international benchmark in higher education, research, and innovation, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and the Spanish language.

Since the recent change in the Ministry of Education, Science and Universities, attention has shifted to higher education. This is reflected in the agreement to update the funding system for the region's six public universities, as well as initiatives such as the University Vive Plan, designed to facilitate access to housing for students, and the approval of the Scientific Research and Technological Innovation Plan (PRICIT), with a budget exceeding 750 million euros.
During the inauguration of the new rector of the University of Alcalá, the president of the Community of Madrid outlined the strategic directions of 'Madrid, University Region'. Key proposals include expanding cultural and sports offerings by opening university campuses beyond the academic calendar, promoting Spanish as a primary attraction for international students, and fully integrating Artificial Intelligence into the educational sphere.

"We are going to present 'Madrid, University Region,' a project that stems from all our ministries in direct coordination with Education, Science and Universities so that Madrid continues to be and takes advantage of the opportunity to become an international home for Higher Education, research, and innovation, especially in the language of Cervantes, Spanish, which today unites a community of more than 600 million people across the planet."

Furthermore, the study and application of Artificial Intelligence in academic life will be strengthened, a plan for student residences and housing will be promoted, and university campuses will remain open throughout the year, including summer, to revitalize facilities and allow enjoyment of Madrid's cultural and sports offerings.
On another educational front, the regional Executive is also addressing the conflict in early childhood education schools. The sector's minister has sent a letter to the Minister of Education, requesting that she assume her responsibilities to regulate the reduction of student-to-teacher ratios in the first cycle of early childhood education and convene the Sectoral Conference to improve the working conditions of professionals across Spain.
The minister highlighted that, under the current presidency, funding modules for the network of early childhood schools have increased by 57.2 percent, contrasting with what she describes as a "disloyal institutional attitude" and "passive" stance by the Ministry of Education, which has led to "street confrontation" and "unnecessary tension" in a sensitive sector.
