The Teatros del Canal and Teatro Real in Madrid present 'Los Estunmen', a daring contemporary opera merging classical lyricism with film action, already generating anticipation.

The production, commissioned by the Teatro Real to performers Marcel Borràs and Nao Albet, known for their iconoclastic approach, aims to redefine the operatic genre. Both creators collaborated with composer Fernando Velázquez for the score and the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE) for the orchestral performance, conducted by Velázquez himself. The libretto is authored by Borràs and Albet.
This ambitious lyrical project has garnered support from other prominent cultural institutions such as the Teatre Lliure and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, uniting four major Spanish public stage entities. The work was previously staged in Barcelona last April, performed with the Liceo orchestra.
The plot of 'Los Estunmen' follows Evangelina, a protagonist who embarks on a journey of revenge following the death of her son, who had caused a massacre. In her quest, she delves into a world populated by actors, singers, and distinctively, film action specialists (stuntmen).
The staging promises to be spectacular, featuring a large cast of actors and singers, dynamic scenography with numerous stairs, and action reminiscent of genre films. The vocal cast includes mezzo-sopranos Sandra Ferrández and Marifé Nogales, countertenor Gabriel Díaz, tenors Vicenç Esteve Madrid and José Ansaldi, and bass Josep Ferrer. Among the acting talent are Nao Albet and Marcel Borràs, alongside Mael Borràs-Clotet (son of Marcel Borràs and Aina Clotet) and Cadmi Albet-Tamarit, among others.
The film stunt specialists themselves, who give the opera its title, are part of the cast: Daniel Domínguez, Andreu Kreutzer, Ander Muñoz, Adrià Rosell, Pablo Sacristán, Emiliano Sosa, Nativo Suárez, and Yeray Vesga. It is worth noting that Albet and Borràs presented their acclaimed show 'De Nao Albet y Marcel Borrás' in Madrid last season, which sold out all performances.
Fernando Velázquez, a composer recognized for his film scores such as 'The Orphanage' or 'The Impossible', contributes his musical talent to this project. 'Los Estunmen' will be performed at the Teatros del Canal until June 14.
