Wisdom, understood as practical knowledge for living the best possible life, is the central theme of 'Filosíntesis', the latest book by writer and philosopher Santiago Beruete. The work, published by Taurus, will be presented on September 24th at the Library of the Royal Botanical Garden-CSIC, marking the start of the eleventh edition of the ‘Written Garden’ cycle.
Beruete proposes the concept of «Filosíntesis» to describe the process of developing spiritual knowledge, comparing it to how plants create their own nourishment. According to the author, just as we extract active principles from the plant kingdom to treat physical and spiritual ailments, we can also gain valuable lessons from nature on how to think and act healthily and beneficially. The work has been described by critics as a “secular bible” and an “intellectual oxygen bomb”, highlighting its inspiration from the plant world and its wisdom-filled nature.
The presentation will feature the author, who will be introduced by Félix Alonso, head of the Library and coordinator of the cycle. The event will take place at the RJB Library, with access via Claudio Moyano street, 1, starting at 6:00 PM. Attendance is free until the venue is full.
Santiago Beruete (Pamplona, 1961) holds degrees in Anthropology and Philosophy, and a doctorate in Philosophy with a thesis on gardens and utopia. He has lived on the island of Ibiza for three decades, balancing teaching, research, and literary creation. He has previously participated in the ‘Written Garden’ cycle, presenting his work 'Jardinosofía' in 2018. His literary output, including poetry collections, short stories, novels, and essays, has received national and international awards and has been translated into several languages.
The ‘Written Garden’ cycle, coordinated by Félix Alonso, began in 2016 with the aim of promoting the RJB-CSIC Library, fostering debate, and disseminating science. Throughout its editions, it has incorporated literary and journalistic themes linked to science, the natural environment, and biodiversity, seeking to encourage reading and highlight the work of libraries.
