The management of the hantavirus health crisis has sparked an intense political debate in the Community of Madrid, with accusations of lack of transparency and defenses of government action.

The spokesperson for the Popular Party in the Madrid Assembly has described the Spanish Government's response to the hantavirus crisis as a political “performance.” This statement follows the arrival of fourteen Spanish citizens at Gómez Ulla Hospital, who were on a cruise ship affected by the virus.

"Only decisions made to secure headlines."

The PP has criticized the alleged “lack of information” from the central Executive, noting that autonomous communities learn about the situation through the press. Questions have also been raised regarding the absence of technical reports on the transfer of passengers and the reasons for sending them to the Canary Islands instead of Cape Verde.
In contrast, the spokesperson for Más Madrid has praised the “exemplary action” of the Ministry of Health, accusing the opposition of resorting to “hoaxes, alarmism, and lack of solidarity.” She emphasized that the management of this complex operation has been based on scientific criteria. Meanwhile, the socialist spokesperson called for “social calm” and congratulated the Spanish Government and autonomous communities for their cooperation.
Más Madrid has requested the urgent appearance of the Minister of Health to explain her statements on the hantavirus crisis, a request that the PP has refused to include in the next plenary session. Vox has also expressed distrust towards the central Government, citing a lack of transparency and information in the management of the health crisis.
