The PIM sessions commenced on September 18th and are held weekly, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, at the ICMAT headquarters, excluding holidays and long weekends. Students, ranging from the first year of ESO to the second year of Bachillerato, are organized into six working groups.
The project's philosophy, now in its fifth year, centers on active learning: "mathematics are learned by doing, not by watching." Sessions prioritize each student's individual work, presenting challenging and interesting problems. Afterward, students discuss and share their solutions with faculty and peers.
This year, a notable trend is observed: former PIM students are joining as instructors. Individuals such as Iván López, Justo Salcedo, Sergio Rodríguez, and Sofía Paz, who were once students, are now guiding a new generation of young people interested in mathematics. This highlights how the project not only sparks vocations but also builds a strong community.
PIM is an initiative by the ICMAT, developed in collaboration with the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society. The exercises used in classes are available for review in the educational material section of the PIM website.
