The swift response of employees at the El Corte Inglés restaurant on Calle Serrano was crucial in containing a minor fire that broke out in one of the establishment's chimneys. The incident, located in the Salamanca district, necessitated the deployment of the capital's security and emergency services.
According to sources from Emergencias Madrid, six units from the Madrid City Council Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Their efforts focused on cooling and thoroughly inspecting the chimney duct to ensure no secondary hotspots remained. Concurrently, officers from the Madrid Municipal Police cordoned off the area and halted traffic to facilitate access for emergency vehicles.
The quick action of the restaurant's own employees prevented the fire from escalating into a larger blaze.
SAMUR-Protección Civil's medical team attended to three individuals on-site: two store employees and a police officer. All suffered from minor smoke inhalation, but none of the cases were serious or required hospital transfer.
Once the inspection work was completed and the building's safety confirmed, the Municipal Police proceeded to reopen Calle Serrano to traffic, with emergency vehicles gradually withdrawing. The situation in the area has since returned to normal.
