This initiative, promoted by the Culture, Tourism and Sports Area, aims to highlight the transformative power of this discipline and its collective enjoyment. The program will culminate on April 29 with the 'Porque yo lo bailo' party.
Between April 9 and 11, Centro Danza Matadero will present Bloody Moon, the first creation by Valencian choreographer Marina Mascarell for the Danish national company Danish Dance Theatre, where she has been director since 2023. Inspired by Georges Bataille's Eroticism, the piece explores various forms of eroticism through vibrant choreographic language, celebrating life and desire with principles of pleasure, excess, chaos, play, and ecstasy. The choreography is the result of a collaboration between Mascarell and the dancers, featuring original music by Yamila Rios and costumes by Nina Botkay.
Subsequently, from April 16 to 19, the venue will host the absolute premiere of Humo, the new show by choreographer and flamenco dancer Rafaela Carrasco, recipient of the 2023 National Dance Award and a prominent figure in flamenco. With direction and choreography by Carrasco and dramaturgy by Álvaro Tato, Humo pays tribute to the 'cigarreras', a historical collective of working women linked to tobacco factories. The work recreates their daily universe, from their working days to their celebrations and conflicts, building a flamenco narrative about the fight against abuse and the pursuit of economic and vital independence.
The special program will conclude on April 29 with 'Celebra26', a day of free activities celebrating International Dance Day. Invitations will be available on the Centro Danza Matadero website. At 12:00 PM, in Nave 16.1, 'Bailar más allá de los 60' will take place, a meeting with Spanish dance figures such as Carmen Werner, Cesc Gelabert, La Ribot, and Mónica Runde, moderated by journalist Javier Torres, to reflect on aging and scenic creation. In the afternoon, from 7:30 PM, Nave 11 will transform into an open dance floor with 'Porque yo lo bailo', a collective party featuring live music, DJs, chotis, and various artistic interventions, directed by Enrique Cabrera of Aracaladanza, inviting the public to become protagonists of the celebration.
