Retail sales in the Community of Madrid continue their upward trend, strengthening the role of small and medium-sized businesses in the regional economy. The Minister of Economy, Finance, and Employment, Rocío Albert, highlighted that the sector has increased its sales by 2.9%, currently generating over 300,000 jobs.
Albert attributed this growth to policies promoted by the regional government, such as the 2012 Law for the Dynamization of Commercial Activity, which streamlined licenses and opening hours, and the 2022 Open Market Law, focused on reducing administrative procedures and regulatory barriers.
The minister also emphasized the Community of Madrid's role as a national economic engine. She recalled that Madrid's economy grew by 3% in 2025, two tenths above the Spanish average, and reached a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 336,489 million euros, representing 19.8% of the country's total economy.
