“"I decided to work with a reduced color palette to concentrate the image of the poster more, and in some way relate it to a type of poster art from the fifties that I particularly like, but seeking a cheerful tone that would remind us of the season in which it is celebrated."

The Madrid Second-Hand Booksellers Association has unveiled the commemorative poster for the 48th Antique and Second-Hand Book Fair, which will take place at Paseo de Recoletos from April 30 to May 17, featuring two artistic versions created by illustrator Juan Berrio.
The illustrator from Valladolid, Juan Berrio, was commissioned to create the image for this year's edition, offering a unique perspective that places the viewer in an intermediate point between books and readers, between the stalls and the promenade. The poster's composition suggests how the fair welcomes visitors, with a flow of books and a blind line guiding the eye towards the interior of the stalls.
María José Blas Ruiz, president of the Madrid Second-Hand Booksellers Association, praised Berrio's work, stating that he has perfectly captured the spirit of the fair, inviting a nostalgic journey through generations. The fair, organized by the association since 1977, will feature the participation of 37 specialized bookstores.
The bibliographic offer will be highly diverse, ranging from affordable paperback editions to genuine literary treasures valued at thousands of euros. These include first editions, incunabula, rare copies, and original manuscripts, attracting both collectors and casual readers.
Juan Berrio, with four decades of experience in illustration and comics, has collaborated with various national and international publications such as BusinessWeek, The Washington Post, and El País. He is the author or co-author of over 50 books and has illustrated classic texts like Diario de un hombre superfluo by Iván Turguénev and Combray by Marcel Proust. His work Miércoles earned him the V Fnac-Sinsentido International Graphic Novel Award in 2012.
