The Community of Madrid has begun the process for 513 affordable rental homes aimed at young people under 35 in the Los Ahijones urban development, which will include green spaces and a swimming pool.

The Community of Madrid has greenlit a new development under the Plan Vive Solución Joven in the Los Ahijones area, set to offer 513 affordable rental homes, prioritizing those under 35. This initiative aims to facilitate housing access for young people in Madrid.
The Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, announced the project's launch during a visit to the 31,709 square meter plot where the buildings will be erected. The development is part of the regional strategy to increase the supply of affordable rentals and encourage youth independence.
The future development will comprise 513 housing units, including 165 one-bedroom apartments and 348 two-bedroom apartments. Additionally, 21 homes will be adapted for individuals with reduced mobility, ensuring accessibility.
The project design incorporates extensive common areas, such as green spaces, a communal swimming pool with restrooms, a coworking space for collaborative work, and a children's play area, fostering a modern and functional living environment.
This initiative is part of the 2026/27 Shock Plan, which aims to expand the affordable rental housing stock and facilitate youth emancipation. The regional government is responding to the growing residential demand with new constructions at adjusted prices.
Jorge Rodrigo highlighted that the Community of Madrid has led the construction of protected housing in Spain since 2019, with over 70,000 properties promoted in the current legislature, 14,000 of which are part of the Plan Vive. He also emphasized the progress in the metropolitan south, with more than 4,500 homes planned.
Furthermore, the regional executive plans to construct a new station for Metro Line 9 in Los Ahijones. The project, currently in the bidding phase, will significantly improve the connectivity of the future urban development with the rest of the region through direct access to the public transport network.
