Madrid Offers Free Culture for Papal Pilgrims and Volunteers

The Community of Madrid's theatres, museums, and heritage sites will open their doors with free access and special discounts.

The Community of Madrid has prepared a special cultural agenda from June 5-7, coinciding with the Pope's visit, offering free access, fast-track entry, and discounts to pilgrims and volunteers at theatres, museums, and heritage sites.

From June 5th to 7th, the Community of Madrid will present an unprecedented cultural program to welcome attendees of the Pope's visit. The initiative, spanning theatres, museums, and regional heritage sites in Madrid, Móstoles, and Alcalá de Henares, will feature free activities, preferential access, and discounts for accredited pilgrims and volunteers.
The cultural offering is diverse, encompassing disciplines such as theatre, dance, music, contemporary art, literary heritage, the history of the Madrid Metro, bullfighting, and archaeology. The aim is to provide visitors with a broad and accessible cultural experience across various locations in the region.
The Teatros del Canal will be a focal point of the program, hosting the special event “No la debemos dormir” during the early hours of Saturday, June 6th, to Sunday, June 7th. This event, with free access and fast-track entry for accredited individuals, is aimed at young people and will include performances by singer-songwriters, DJ sets, and Spanish dance pieces.
The same venue will stage "La dama boba", an adaptation of the comedy by Lope de Vega, and "Los Estunmen", a contemporary opera by Nao Albert and Marcel Borràs. The lineup also includes "Sacresize", a modern dance performance by Alberto Velasco. For paid performances, a 20% discount will be applied to pilgrims and volunteers.
The Sala Canal de Isabel II will host the exhibition “Ana Locking. Nostalgia / Utopía”, dedicated to the career of designer Ana Locking. The exhibition, featuring over 160 garments, will offer a 20% discount at the box office for accredited visitors.
The Lope de Vega House Museum will be open with free access and fast-track entry for pilgrims and volunteers, allowing visitors to explore the writer's home and experience 17th-century Madrid.
The Chamberí Station Museum, preserving an original Madrid Metro station from 1919, will offer free and fast access to accredited individuals, with guided tours requiring prior reservation.
The Las Ventas Bullfighting Museum, located at the Monumental Bullring, will present a journey through the history of bullfighting, with free access and fast-track entry for pilgrims and volunteers.
The Pacífico Engine Room, a historic former power station for the Madrid Metro, will open its doors to showcase its original machinery, with free and fast access for accredited visitors.
The Classic Train Museum Station in Chamartín will display classic Madrid Metro trains, offering free and fast access to pilgrims and volunteers.
The El Águila Cultural Complex will host the exhibition “Valle-Inclán en Madrid”, exploring the writer's life in the capital. Access will be free and fast, with free guided tours on June 5th and 6th.
The Museum of Contemporary Art "Dos de Mayo" (CA2M) in Móstoles, the Community of Madrid's contemporary art museum, will offer free and fast access to its programming.
The Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid in Alcalá de Henares will feature its permanent exhibition and the temporary one "Saber-toothed cats", with free and fast access for accredited visitors.
The Cervantes Birthplace Museum in Alcalá de Henares will recreate the writer's home and present the exhibition “With Cape and Sword. Fashion in Cervantes' Time”, with free admission.
