Jorge Rodrigo, the Counselor for Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, has warned of mobility restrictions to be implemented on the Castellana-Recoletos axis starting Monday due to the visit of Pope Leo XIV to the capital.

Jorge Rodrigo acknowledged that the Pontiff's visit to the capital will cause urban mobility difficulties and urged Madrid residents to prioritize public transport during those days. Speaking from the Infante Don Luis Palace, the counselor expressed that the Regional Government is "very happy, joyful, and grateful" for the Pope's arrival in Madrid, emphasizing that all departments are coordinating efforts to ensure the event's success.
Regarding transport, specific mobility plans have been designed by the Regional Transport Consortium in collaboration with other administrations, particularly the Madrid City Council. Rodrigo admitted that citizens will experience "certain penalties" and requested "patience and cooperation" from the public.

"I ask you to use public transport, as we have one of the best public transport systems in the world. Let's do it in a positive way and, above all, with great enthusiasm to enjoy the visit of the Holy Father to Madrid."

Rodrigo confirmed that traffic restrictions will be in place from Monday on the Castellana-Recoletos axis, though he assured that efforts will be made to minimize the impact on mobility. The regional official compared the Pope's arrival to major events like Formula 1, arguing that such events position the city and region on the international stage and generate significant economic impact.

"I do ask for the collaboration and participation of citizens, and certainly, in a joyful manner, especially because the outcome is that the Holy Father will be with us."
