Renovation works on the road connecting Madrid and Boadilla, passing through the Campamento neighborhood near the Casa de Campo, commenced this Monday. The project includes widening sidewalks and the carriageway, which will become a single exit lane following traffic reorganization.
The initiative aims to strengthen the connection between the Campamento neighborhood and the Casa de Campo by widening sidewalks and renewing pedestrian crossings, driveways, and intersections to meet current accessibility standards. The road's cross-section will be modified to calm traffic and facilitate coexistence between pedestrians, public transport, and private vehicles.
To enhance road safety, three new traffic lights will be installed, existing ones will be adapted, and 115 vertical signs will be placed. 27 inadequate elements will be corrected and 40 adapted, including reserved parking spaces, driveways, pedestrian crossings, and bus stop areas, benefiting people with reduced mobility.
The new configuration will add 3,981 m² of pedestrian surface and 1,292 m² of carriageway. The works, covering 18,162 m² from the junction with the A-5 to the border with Pozuelo de Alarcón, are scheduled to finish in spring 2027 and have a budget of 1.7 million euros.
The project will also increase parking capacity, from the current 194 spaces to 223 (an increase of 29) in the areas adjacent to the Casa de Campo.
The road remodel will involve a new traffic management system, anticipating an increase in traffic flow. The road will feature two lanes in a single direction for exiting Madrid between Carabias and Ayllón streets. Beyond this point, two-way traffic will be maintained until the roundabout connecting the M-502 and M-511 roads. Traffic direction will also be modified on the first section of Ayllón street and Campo Florido street.
This configuration is designed to meet the projected traffic demand once the Paseo Verde del Suroeste becomes operational, with estimated peak hour intensities of 900 to 1,000 vehicles per hour.
During the initial phases, work will focus on material stockpiling and signage. Initially, two-way traffic will be maintained between the roundabout of the M-502/M-511 and Claudio Sánchez-Albornoz street.
Subsequently, the single-direction exit from Madrid with one lane will be implemented. This measure will enhance safety during construction and coordinate traffic disruptions with the future A-5 tunnel. The return route for the EMT Madrid line 65 will be modified, using Villaviciosa and Carabias streets.
The project also significantly increases tree planting, from the current 55 specimens to 188, with 133 new trees distributed along the roadway and in green areas.
Environmental improvements will include permeable pavements, sustainable drainage systems, and new irrigation networks. Street furniture will be renewed, replacing 260 meters of pedestrian fencing, installing seven benches and 54 bollards, and creating new resting areas.
The lighting will be modernized with 75 new LED elements, reducing installed power by 1,190 watts and lowering energy consumption.
