The works, carried out by the municipal company Madrid Calle 30, will cover an area of 1.2 million square meters with an investment of 24.1 million euros. The campaign seeks to improve user comfort and safety, reduce noise levels, and decrease air pollution.
The delegate for Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero, and the councilor for Fuencarral-El Pardo, José Antonio Martínez-Páramo, presented the start of this initiative. Road surfaces will be prioritized based on their obsolescence level and traffic intensity. Significant interventions will take place on sections of streets such as Gran Vía, Paseo de la Castellana, and Calle de Serrano.
Workers will begin their tasks at 7:00 AM and finish at 3:00 PM, with the possibility of stopping if temperatures exceed 38 degrees Celsius.
The campaign will utilize approximately 125,000 tons of asphalt, largely favoring semi-warm mixes produced at lower temperatures than conventional hot mixes. This technique reduces CO2, SO2, and volatile organic compound emissions, lowers worker exposure to fumes, and decreases energy consumption.
A significant portion of the paved surface will use mixtures incorporating recycled tire rubber powder, allowing for the reuse of about 54,700 end-of-life tires. Additionally, SMA-type bituminous mixtures, known for their resistance and durability, will be applied to high-traffic streets, also incorporating recycled rubber.
