Madrid in Motion Secures Third Place in Global Champions Tour

The Madrid-based team reaches the podium at home with strong performances from Maikel van der Vleuten and Sergio Álvarez Moya.

The Madrid in Motion team has secured third place in the Longines Global Champions Tour CSI Madrid 2026, held at the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

The Madrid squad, Madrid in Motion, achieved a podium finish for the fourth time in the competition held in the capital. The performances of riders Maikel van der Vleuten and Sergio Álvarez Moya were crucial in securing the third spot.
Maikel van der Vleuten, riding “Quastor vd Heffinck”, accumulated 4 and 0 faults in the two scoring rounds. Meanwhile, Sergio Álvarez Moya, with “Quadrado”, delivered clear rounds, incurring only two time faults in the second test. Both riders were selected to represent the team in the Marqués de Riscal Trophy events.
With a total of 6 points, Madrid in Motion concluded the competition. The Istanbul Warriors team took second place with 5 points, while Prague Lions claimed victory with just one point.
The day also featured the Mahou Trophy, a CSI5 competition serving as a qualifier for the Grand Prix. The win went to Germany's Hans-Dieter Dreher with “Vestmalle des Cotis”, followed by Ireland's Ciaran Nallon and Spain's Iván Serrano.
The CSI1 competitions in the morning saw Spanish dominance. Luis Márquez Méndez won the Fundación Madrid Horse Week Trophy with “Rotterdam Buzalen”. In other events, José Díaz Vecino and Paloma Barceló secured second and third places, respectively. Luis Fernández Rey claimed victory in the 1.25m class after a jump-off.
