Madrid Firefighters have spent over 12 hours extinguishing a fire that broke out in a storage unit warehouse in the Villaverde district, generating a dense black smoke plume and raising alarms about potential structural collapse.

The blaze started around 6:00 AM on Thursday in a warehouse located on San Mamés street. Fifteen fire crews were dispatched to the scene to combat the flames, which spread across three facades of the building.
Due to the risk of structural collapse, a fire brigade remained on site overnight to prevent any rekindling of the blaze. Samur-Civil Protection units were present preventatively, although no injuries were reported.

"It's going to take a long time, the firefighters' operation in that area will last a long time."

Inma Sanz · Deputy Mayor of Madrid
The Deputy Mayor of Madrid, Inma Sanz, warned that the emergency services' intervention would continue for several more hours due to the fire's intensity and the significant combustible load inside the warehouse. She acknowledged that significant structural deterioration and relevant damage to the building are highly probable.
Madrid Municipal Police established a security cordon and managed traffic in the area. Additionally, the Municipal Police's Aerial Support Section deployed drones to provide firefighters with an overall perspective of the burning warehouse.
