The traveling market 'La Despensa de Madrid' made its stop in Guadarrama, attended by the Director General of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food of the Community of Madrid, Ángel Oteo Mancebo, and the local mayor, Diosdado Soto. Accompanied by council members, they toured the stalls to discover the variety of Madrid products on display.
Visitors enjoyed a wide array of local offerings, including olives from Campo Real, pickles, craft beers, baked goods, pastries, preserves, empanadas, liquors, honey from Madrid, organic produce, smoked items, cured sheep cheese from Guadalix de la Sierra, and wines. The family business Fish Gourmet, known for its smoked fish and a pioneer in smoked sardines, was a notable presence. Yellow and black chickpeas developed and cultivated by IMIDRA were also showcased.
Despite the heat, residents and visitors flocked to the market, demonstrating their support for local consumption and reaffirming the event's popularity and the citizens' commitment to regional producers.
'La Despensa de Madrid' aims to introduce residents across the Community of Madrid to the extensive variety of foods produced and cultivated within the region, encouraging local consumption.
This traveling market is an initiative by the Community of Madrid, in collaboration with the Guadarrama City Council through its Local Development Department. Purchasing local products helps stimulate rural economies and create sustainable jobs, contributing to rural development.
Since 2014, the Community of Madrid has promoted the 'M Producto Certificado' quality guarantee brand to showcase regional food products. Currently, 504 companies and approximately 4,500 products bear this quality seal.
