The Community of Madrid presents Nueva-Vieja Pintura, a free exhibition at the Sala de Arte Joven showcasing the work of seven emerging artists and exploring the contemporary relevance of the pictorial genre until July 19th.

The Sala de Arte Joven in the capital is hosting the exhibition Nueva-Vieja Pintura, an initiative by the Community of Madrid focusing on the work of seven emerging artists. The exhibition, which is free to visit until July 19th, delves into the persistence and current relevance of the pictorial genre.
Curated by Andrea Celda and Lu Millet, the exhibition is part of the Se busca comisario (Curator Wanted) project, designed to facilitate professional access for creators under 35. The proposal traces a genealogy of contemporary painting, structured around four thematic axes linked to modern and contemporary art history: formalism, historicism, figuration, and conceptualism.
Through the creations of Irene Anguita, Álvaro del Fresno, Andrés Izquierdo, Esther Gatón, Iris Sanmartín, Raúl Silva, and María Tinaut, the exhibition examines how traditional pictorial languages, despite having shifted in meaning, continue to resonate in the current artistic imagination.
Complementing the exhibition, a program of activities for all audiences has been organized, including guided tours, meetings with the curators, conversations with artists and specialists, as well as children's and family workshops.
The Se busca comisario call is a commitment by the Community of Madrid to promote emerging creation. Since its inception in 2009, it has benefited over 50 curators and 160 artists, selecting two independent exhibition proposals annually for development at the Sala de Arte Joven.
