Since 06:10 AM, shortly after opening, service on Line 6 was affected in both directions. Initially, the disruption occurred between Laguna and Plaza Elíptica stations. The incident, attributed to a catenary system failure, led to an extended estimated resolution time of several hours.
According to a statement from Metro de Madrid, the cause was an «incident in the facilities,» with no further details provided initially. The initial estimated resolution time was «more than 30 minutes,» but this was updated to «more than 2 hours» by 07:05 AM. Later, at 08:05 AM, the affected section was modified to between Laguna and Oporto, with the same «more than 2 hours» disruption forecast.
“"The initial cut between Laguna and Plaza Elíptica stations, in both directions, was due to an «incident in the facilities» and the initial resolution time for said incident was «more than 30 minutes."
The electrical fault in the catenary has directly impacted Laguna, Carpetana, Oporto, Opañel, and Plaza Elíptica stations. To alleviate passenger inconvenience, a special substitute bus service has been established between Laguna and Plaza Elíptica. Although the direct interruption is limited to these stations, trains on the rest of Line 6 have also experienced delays, leading to numerous complaints from users on social media.
Line 6, known as the circular line of the Madrid Metro along with Line 12, is crucial for the transport system's backbone, facilitating transfers between peripheral areas and preventing radial congestion. It features 28 stations and a route of 23.472 kilometers of wide-gauge tunnel tracks, allowing transfers to almost all other lines in the network.
