The measure, which will extend until midnight, responds to an update in the extraordinary bulletin from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), warning of winds that could reach 68 kilometers per hour. The precautionary closure aims to safeguard public safety against the risk of falling branches or trees.
In addition to the emblematic El Retiro park, the closure affects eight other parks: El Capricho, Rosaleda del parque del Oeste, Juan Carlos I, Juan Pablo II, Quinta de Fuente del Berro, Quinta de los Molinos, Quinta Torre Arias, and the Manzanares Linear Park. Evacuation in El Retiro will begin two hours before the closure.
The reopening of this historic park will possibly be delayed until Saturday, once technicians from the City Council's Urban Planning, Environment, and Mobility Area have assessed and addressed any potential damage to the trees.
The other affected parks will gradually reopen to the public as the condition of the trees is reviewed and their safety is guaranteed. Madrid City Council will provide information on the reopening through its usual channels, including the information panels located at the entrances of El Retiro.
