The Deputy Mayor has accused the Government Delegate of attempting to deflect responsibility and to "share his negligence," after the Government Delegation requested updated information from the Community of Madrid and the City Council regarding their security actions in Paraíso Park in San Blas-Canillejas.
“"It is evident that we need to do something more."
The Delegate for Security and Emergencies also asserted that citizen security is a primary responsibility of the Government Delegation and indicated that the Delegate must explain why the Gang Plan "is not working" as it should. She warned that serious disturbances occur every weekend, some linked to youth gangs, with frequent use of bladed weapons.
The Deputy Mayor has called for a greater police presence, better resources for the National Police, and for the City Council to be allowed to hire the municipal agents it needs. She has also demanded legislative reforms to address this type of crime. She maintained that the municipal government is working in social areas, addiction, and security with Municipal Police patrols on three shifts, and has called for the Government Delegate's resignation if he is unable to guarantee the safety of Madrid's residents.
For his part, the Government Delegate has expressed regret that neither the Community nor the City Council has yet sent him information on the measures adopted in the vicinity of Paraíso Park. He advocated for a comprehensive plan that includes security, social, and health measures, and rejected the "simplistic solutions" that, in his opinion, the Mayor proposes by demanding more police. The Delegate appealed to the responsibility of the Community of Madrid and lamented that the regional Executive did not attend the inter-institutional meeting convened last week to address the insecurity situation in San Blas-Canillejas.
