The connected mobility ecosystem recorded unusual behavior on Madrid roads. According to the analyzed data, the number of V16 beacon activations saw significant growth both in the hours leading up to and, more sharply, in the period following the astronomical event.
During the night shift, between 9:00 PM and 11:59 PM, 29 activations were recorded, a figure nearly five times higher than the previous Wednesday. Likewise, during the afternoon, between 3:00 PM and 8:59 PM, the increase was 37%, reaching 96 activations compared to 70 the previous week.
The total daily balance in the region reached 264 activations. Although the data does not confirm a direct causal link between the eclipse and the incidents, experts note that the temporal coincidence reflects an extraordinary mobility pattern, different from standard days.
Connectivity technology allows that, when a beacon is activated, the immobilized vehicle is integrated into the DGT 3.0 platform. This information is transmitted anonymously to facilitate traffic management through navigators and information panels, allowing for the observation of how major events alter habitual traffic flows.
